You may wish to try reading The Rules of the Game by Pierluigi Collina. I know that he is not a basketball official, but he is currently regarded as the best soccer referee in the world, and has some wonderful insights about the duty to administer a fair game and the fortitude to make the tough calls because they are the right calls.
