I know. Those people are wrong.
If the intent of the rule was to address players only, then the rule would read, "No
opposing player may disconcert." But it doesn't say that. It says no opponent. Everyone on the bench is part of the team and is, therefore, the opponent.
Cheerleaders are not the opponent.
