"Cole's Quotables" gives credit to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832). The attributed quote is: "What does not kill me makes me stronger."

The Nietzsche (1844 - 1900) version is from "Thus Spake Zarathusra" and is attributed as "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

Seems Goethe beat him to it. And it is NOT from a chick flick after all!
