We go over the duties of each official on free kicks, punts, scrimmage plays, etc. We do not use the same crew all year, so it is good that everybody gets an understanding of who knows what. Each official is responsible for speaking when their position is being talked about. It can get boring to listen to the referee the whole time. This will also encourage position officials to read before the game and know his/her position. You can set a bad tone early if it gets your turn to say what your duties are during a free kick and you give the wrong position and you say you are looking at the wrong things.
