I believe that the official was pointing to the wrestler that still had the top position. In that period one of the wrestlers started that period in the top position. He was pointing to the wrestler that still retained the top position. Obviously, the player on top did not lose his position since no points were scored. Otherwise, the player on top would have been awarded a reversal for 2 points. I'm not a wrestling official, but had friends who wrestled.
