Help for a new official

i have decided to officiate wrestling this year, after doing three years of football. What advice can you give me as I get started in a new sport?

lwhicks,

Here is a web-site started on officiating wrestling. Lots of tips in here.

Only if you wrestled in HS or C should you become a wrestling official. There is no-way you can do the job correctly. You need to know how a hold is applied and the limits before it becomes potential dangerous or illegal. if you have or did wrestle, get to a school and ask the coach to get on the mat, get the feel back. Its the best. Like they say, Wrestling is what men do during boys basketball season.

lwhicks3 - You will need to do what you have already done for you other sports. Study, work, study more, work more.
Despite what eprov says, you can be a good oficial without having been a wrestler. It just takes extra work to understand the sport.
Former athletes tend to be not so good as officials as they take a while to quit thinking like an athlete and start thinking like an official.Eventually they catch on.
