Abusing the Re-serve rule

While going through my rule book I noticed 12-2-8M (Under Player Conduct)
"Abusing the Re-serve rule" . Since I work mostly Middle school VB I was wondering if someone could give me an example of this? Thanks
Maybe I am over thinking this.

Abuse of re-serve rule

On case that I have seen involves the wrong server going back to serve. She tosses the ball up, but lets it drop without contact because the coach is yelling wrong server. The correct server then proceeds back to the server position to take advantage of the reserve.

When my daughter was playing, before I picked up the whistle, she had a team mate who had a practice of taking a re-serve whenever she started her term of service. She was never called for abusing the re-serve rule, I assume that since a referee only saw her for a couple of matches a season, they didn't know she abused the re-serve. As the dad who attended all of the teams matches and now a referee, I think she was abusing the re-serve to delay the game and should have been called.

Thanks everyone
It seems it would a player that continually throws up the ball catches it or lets it drop for every time they serve, for their term of service.

Mrcrash3, your interpretation MAY be accurate. However, make sure that in your judgment, the player IS abusing the rule...that is where each of us may differ because NFHS does not give us any hard-and-fast guidance.

pavbref, the situation that you mention is not abusing the reserve rule. It is completely legal since the coach prevented a fault due to a wrong server. Refer to Casebook 8.1.6 Situation C.

I don't think you can unless every player on the team took their reserve. I've never seen it or heard of it being called in high school. More likely to happen in USAV under 14. That has to be as rare as a screening call. lol
