Mechanics at the Men's Final Four

I happened to see some of the NCAA Men's semis this past weekend. It looked like the R1 was signaling which side received a point before indicating "in" or "out". Is that how they do it? Or was I not seeing it correctly?

NCAA Men's uses the USAV mechanic, which is loss of rally, then fault.

Of course one other thing you might have noticed was that the Referee's stand was located on the bench side of the court and a secondary R2 was seated in front of the table to handle substitutions.

And, of course, the use of four (4) line judges (if you are from Illinois...what a concept - right, Felix?).

Why the relocated R1 and R2?

They actually use three officials, R1, R2, and R3, who sits behind the R1 and admisters subs (and I believe, timeouts).

The reason, as I've been told, is TV wants the benches and the R1 both to be in the main shot.

Jan, don't get me started on LJ's.
