Showing player numbers
Is there a correct hand position for the R1 when showing the number of the player who committed a net fault? I hold my hands directly in front of me, as if I'm showing the number to the R2.
But I've seen a LOT of first referees in this tournament who bring both their hands to fault side of the net, as if they're showing the number to the team's bench. Is there a correct (or preferred) mechanic for this? |

From the NFHS Manual (under "Guidance on Signaling Player's Numbers" after all the number information):
It is important to not create confusion with signaling illegal multiple contact ("2") or 4 hits ("4"). R1 should hold the player number signal in an area not used to show a foul involving number of player contacts. This could be at should height and slightly to the side of the offending team as opposed to head height where "2-hit" and "4-hit" signals are to be held. |

I put my 2's and 4's above my head. I put player numbers at head height. But my question is really about whether the player number should be displayed toward the R2 or toward the offending team's bench.
