Anyone been involved in anything like this before?
From the article; "Sports officials have to choose between safety and upsetting people," he said. "Many times, competitive outdoor events are on a collision course with safety. There also is a liability issue. If little Tommy or little Susie got hurt because officials had ignored the warnings, their parents would have a different set of feelings." Rivals High - Runner, on verge of record, stopped with one lap left

Not when somebody was on the verge of a major record like that.
I was on the track for a conference championship meet this spring where the referee pulled the girls 3200 off the track after 5 of the 8 laps. They re-ran it (from the beginning) after the weather delay and the other events were completed. I felt sorry for those girls. That was a miserable day. We had three lightning delays that lasted for over 3.5 hours total. Because tournaments were the next week, they didn't want to come back at a later date. So, we sat there, and sat there, and sat there. Miserable. |

First of all, you do exactly what your state policy says to do.
Second of all, I doubt you can have enough insurance to save you from losing your house should some one on the track area was injured. This was a no brainer decision. |
