I can't be the only one

After working games on fields where the nearest bathrooms are a quarter mile away, or there are none available at all, I have decided to take a "p" bottle with me where ever I go to umpire. It has saved me on numerous occasions. I can't be the only one who has resorted to such drastic measures. Any one else want to admit to it?:):

I would guess that most of us have at one time or another worked at fields without toilet facilities. However, I simply don't accept any further assignments to such fields. (I realize that this does not constitute either an admission or denial to having resorted to your bottle solution, and my solution will forever be my secret.)

1) I don't eat after lunch. 2) Luckily I can go at 4:45 before leaving home & still get to my assignment by 5:40, for a 6pm game. 3) Since I am in good standing w/many Recreation Councils/offices I can usually push for spot-a-pots somewhere close. These kids & parents will also complain if it doesn't happen. 4) I know where all the fast food places are near the place I'm umpiring should I need to make a pit stop on the way to the game. Once I had to leave between games to make a pit stop. I don't have a bottle, but I do have a small office type trash can in the van.

I am 63-1/2 years old. So guess what, I go more frequently than when I was younger. I always find a port-a-potty and go just before I go out on the field. And the vast majority of the time that allows me to go the entire game. BUT, there have been times where I have told my partner that at the next half inning is over there is going to be a TIME OUT! Because I am going to use the facilities. And if the coaches and parents do not like it too bad. I have yet to have someone complain.

P.S. And I a talking about going Number 1.

An issue with most guys over, say, 50? I have a motto to never pass up an opportunity to "void" myself before a game. Luckily most of my games end in an hour and a half or so. There are a couple of sites where a rest room is far from the field. Have to think that major league baseball umpires with games going 4 hours or more must resort to wearing an adult diaper. Anyone know?

They have a room just off the field where they can go to between innings.

My joke is, that between softball and volleyball, I know where the bathrooms are in every school in the county....and where they aren't!

Not bad enough to use a bottle. What kind of field has no facilities? Even an outhouse?

Lots of them have bathrooms that are closed or to far to get to.

We just had an issue locally where one umpire used his tire as a urinal and was reported by his partner for doing so.

Then the people in authority need to get a clue. That's just basic common sense to have something available.

Last Fall I was umpiring a boys' 14U baseball game by myself (Junior had to work and my partner never showed up). The middle of the 4th inning came and natured called and I told both coaches that the game would resume once I returned from the rest room which was about 200 yards away. There really anything that they could do about it.

One partner for everyone's scratch list. And I'm not talking about the guy taking a leak, either.
