IDK, there are probably a few umpires that would have had the 3rd base coach for assisting a runner when it looked like he may have touched her helmet.

But it is all still bullshit. Put a damn sub in and run the bases.

LOL.

Ok, if we're playing that - the rule doesn't say hinder, it says impede. Had they not carried her, she would have stayed in the batters box. They impeded her ability to stay in one place.

Hypopathetical...

Pitcher and catcher lift the runner, carry her to first, second, and then at third don't lower her enough to touch third, and then carry her home. And then appeal the miss at 3rd. :) :) :)

Fair enough it does say impede. But I would argue that the defense is not impedeIng since they are helping BR do what she wants to do: namely advance.

Now that's just mean!!

Seriously if the defense wants to allow the incapacitated BR to score IMO she should have a legal way to do so.

Mike gave the colorful answer above.

The fact is, these are feel-good stories the media fawns over, but in reality, the rules permit the offensive coach to enter a sub for the injured runner, who then completes the base-running.

As I read the story, the defensive players understood the option available to the offensive team. They just thought the player hitting the home run, given her pre-AB physical circumstances, deserved the chance to touch all the bases - which make it an even more feel-good story for the media.
