Under slowpitch ASA rules can someone clear up the following.

Batter hits a triple and when sliding into third injures herself. Defense team won't allow a courtesy runner - batting team have no substitutes. Batting coach leaves injured runner on third. Next batter gets a base hit and third base runner limps home.

Next at bat the injured girl is up at the plate with a 2-1 count. The batting team then find a substitute (late arrival). Is it possible to substitute a batter in mid count or will the injured batter have to play it out?

Thanks

Chris

The sub would be legal, as long as s/he is a legal
sub, and since s/he
has never played for another player, seems like s/he would be.

BTW, Welcome to the board.

ASA 4.6 Cannot cite an exact rule to the particular question above as it does not exist. There is NO limitation as to when a substitute or legal reentry may be used.

Let me also say, welcome!

ASA does not put their rules online. You can get a copy of the rules from your region UIC, or perhaps directly from ASA: Go here for ASA's web site. They don't have the rule book available for online ordering, but there should be contact information there for who you should talk to.

Nice flag

I already have a rule book but I thought an online version would be easier to navigate. Sometimes it is difficult to find a rule.

I agree... perhaps ASA will get into the late 20th century soon . They may be able to make a little money off of a CD version of the book, or even a subscription site for access to an online version.
