I am a coach of a 12 & under girls fastpitch team. Under ASA rules during an intentional walk does the catcher have to have both feet in the catchers box or can she just have one? I understand that the catchers box is the full length of the batters boxes. What is the rule?

The pitcher may not pitch unless all fielders are completely in fair territory except for the catcher who must be completely inside the catcher's box.

Now, trying not to be smug, but if you are an ASA coach, why did you not just look this up in your rule book?

Trust me, if you come onto my field and cite something you read on the internet while trying to debate a ruling, you'll be gone before you get to the "dot-com".

Maybe I should but three ASA umpires had no clue what to do either. They made my catcher stay behind the plate until the pitcher threw the ball just like baseball. Maybe they should read the rules before they take the field also.

I could not agree more!!! However, I'm willing to bet you that the umpires to which you are referring work more than just ASA, and probably include baseball in their repitoire.

Tough break. We're expected to not only know but understand the details and nuances between ASA, NFHS, PONY, NCAA, etc. so moonlighting with baseball rules is not an excuse; even if there are no lines for catcher's box.

Ouch, If a coach asks a rule instead of an ump he gets the ole "Look it up and dont bother me" bit?
