How do NF and ASA codes handle pitched balls into the dirt which then hit the batter? Are those HBP and dead balls?

Thanks for the help!

Speaking Dixie fastpitch, the ball becomes dead when it hits the batter not the ground. The batter would be awarded first unless they cause the ball to hit them.

Any time a pitched ball hits a batter, it's a dead ball. If the batter had an opportunity to avoid being hit, no award.

And to add to what Bob said, if she was swinging at the pitch and it hit her, dead ball and a strike!
