Yes the Softball game, or at least some of the tournament, was usurped for Roger Clemens' attempt for a 300th win (NYY vs Bo-Sox).... while Goerl pitched a 9 inning no hitter (fantastic job!)
Umpire for the baseball game seemed a little biased - wouldn't call any of Wakefield's (?) curves. Did everything he could for Clemens; who still lost. It wasn't like the pitch speed was so fast that it couldn't be seen (60-70 mph). Phenomenal camera showed great knuckle ball pitches... floating in.

ESPN is a business. Anyone who thinks the NCAA Women's Softball final between two California schools would draw bigger ratings than a live grudge match between RC and his hated Yankees against the hated Red Sox (RC's former team; a team he left with lots of ill feelings; a team he has snubbed by saying he will enter the hall of fame as a Yankee, etc., etc.) as RC goes for his 300th career victory is nuts.

Cecil, there was a play with a runner on 1st, line drive to F5 who fired back to F3 in an attempt to double off the runner. The throw was a good one, low and on the money, but it got there just as the runner was sliding back. F3 never controlled the ball, and from the umps angle I'm sure it looked like she was out. But the runner ended up laying on top of the ball and the empty glove. The 1B coach came VERY close to the bag yelling and gesturing while the ump moved around and asked to see the ball.
Anyway, the correct call was made, but it was just interesting to see the coach react like she did when a call had not even been made yet. |

Agree with what you said BUT by the time the NCAA game started Clemons was done and the ball game was basically over and if not they could of move the game over to ESPN2 and showed the game JMO Don |

At least some of you saw the game. How/when did you find out about the schedule change? I came in from a H.S. playoff game at 3:45 PDT (5:45 CDT), and when B.Ball Tonight was on, I assumed the game was already over. In 15 min., I saw no notice about any change.
At 4 PDT (6 CDT), another MLB game came on the satellite. (Thank you, Direct TV, who doesn't always beam the same thing the local cable is showing for ESPN. But then the local cable doesn't even do ESPN2.) So a good chunk of Oregon didn't see it at all, and we are a PAC-10 state! If anyone hears of a replay, maybe it can be posted. (The local paper doesn't list any sporting event that isn't live, and misses half that are.) At least there was a lot of good softball shown! I enjoyed watching a lot of high level players from around the country. That and having the NCAA D II tournament in town last week meant some savy area coaches were able to expose some young players to some very good players.
