Fly Ball / Tag Up

No outs, Fast Pitch, 2 person system, runner on first. Flyball who has responcibility of tag / runner?. Fly ball to the left field

Field (base) umpire has the responsibility for the tag up at first.

What should BU pick up first, the catch, or the departure from the base? My periphral vision can't get both from the slot.

Unless you turn your back to the infield and go out on the fly ball, the fly ball is the PU's call.

If you do turn your back to the infield, you stay out until all play is complete. The PU reverts to single man mechanics to cover all runners, all bases.
