Cold, windy and cold…….definitely not typical Myrtle Beach weather. Everyone just checking in and catching up.

AFA the bats and balls. Though the 52/300 will not be made the mandated ball this year, there is a belief the ETCC will make an adjustment that will permit more bats to be used in anticipation of a new bat stamp in 2013. I think this is a mistake, but as was explained to me by a very knowledgeable individual that recent tests have shown a minimal difference between the approved and non-approved bats as it relates to the use of the 52/300 ball.

Issue there is that to use the different bats, it would have to be the 52/300 ball in the game. The follow-up to this apparently would be action similar to what USSSA is doing in establishing a new stamp and redoing this for 2013. I hope this does not happen because all it will do is cause that much more consternation to the players and umpires.

Remember, this is just conversation and not anything which has happened yet, but is anticipated by quite a few people.

Word on bringing back the restriction on heating bats is based upon additional test which show that is it possible that some bats do not recover from heating as quickly as previously believed.
