Ncaa

Had a question tonight from an umpire who works NCAA ball concerning the "new" rule as it pertains to a runner leaving early.

If there are two outs, why would it be a DDB? What more can the defense attain when there are two outs and any runner leaves early?

Didn't someone already post that NCAA was considering a "tweak" to the new rule, making it a dead ball with two outs?

The one thing they could attain is putting the batter out instead; if that is the one batter that the coach doesn't want to let beat the team, that might be an option.

I'm betting that suggested "tweak" doesn't happen.

WHY are you using logic and reason in reference to NCAA rules?

That would have been my response, too..... until I read AtlUmpSteve's response......

However, I still would like to see them tweak it - tweak it out of the book!!!!

Good point, but what if there isn't two strikes and no swing?

Then I would HOPE the coach would make the right choice.

But, until there is no swing, how would anyone know what options there are?

Not saying I love the rule, just saying what is possible.

I think it will work, but considering the manner in which many coaches at all levels approach something like this (as a strategy and target of abuse), I can see the rule causing as many headaches as outs to some.

And as we are seeing, it seems to be a bit blurry as opposed to a clean cut black and white rule.

We will see.
