In Michigan we must belong to State H.S. association; they provide books (Rules, Case, Ump), rules clinics, and run the State tournaments. Fee is $30.

Can't speak for East Side, but in our area the local association assigns all games, receives fee from schools.
Pay is $37 Varsity, $33 JV (doubled for DH). Freshmen play 2 five inning game DH, one man crew - pay is $62.

I live between two meto areas. In area south where umpires contract their own games, schools do not pay assignment fees so game fees are higher ($45 JV, $50 Varsity).

Other than freshmen, we are never assigned 1 man games. However, if circumstances dictate working alone then we get both checks.

No mileage except for State semi's and finals, then also get housing and food accomdations.

Cool

Mike, I thought you were going to post the fees.

Delaware:

College $70.00 /game usually work a DH
High School Varsity; $58.00 per man if your partner doesn't show up you get another $29.00

J.V. Junioh High, Freshman 40.00 usually work these alone.

Assignior fees are 7% of your total talk for the season.

Dues:

ASA 30.00
DSUA 35//Our association
DSSAA 12 Del. secondary school athletic ***. I think
NFOIA 10
Maryland 23.00

No milage. I think that's all.

I'm moving to Delaware!!!!

Glen:

I know about the .345 cents a mile being the state standard, however when our board contracted with the schools, they contracted for .30 a mile. It raised a stink in the chapter for while, but most of us have gotten over it.

WOW Bob, you don't need milage with fees like that.

Scott, I have heard that they are going to discuss raising the softball pay
but don't think it will be in the Delaware range.

In Delaware, for college, the longest round-trip your going to have to deal with is about 110 miles. For HS, it's not going to be much more than 50-60 miles.

State License fee: $50.00 yearly
Association: $25.00 yearly (strongly recommended to belong, not reguired as of yet)
Assigning fee if you have association schedule your games: $40.00 per year, per sport (schools responsible to get umpires, most have association do it for them for fee : $ ?????)
Schools that have association assign games pay $40.00 per game, both JV and Varsity, Varsity required to have 2 umpires, 99% of JV games have 2 umpires, if you get a freshamn game alone $55.00
Some schools who do their own assigning pay $45.00 and $50.00 per game, both JV & Varsity
No Milage until you are assigned tournament games and then state pays milage.

Not so in Texas though Mike. I just got back from doing a relatively close 4A contest tonight. Total mileage was 120 roundtrip. Last Tuesday, for another 4A contest my total mileage was 175 round trip! My chapter covers 5 counties! (and those are Texas size counties!)

Then I guess I would be calling International Softball when I was working a simple high school game!

Hey, you never know about God's sense of humor. There may be a horrific storm one week and the Rio Grande may turn North. Then you would all be working for mucho peso. Si?
