Just to lighten it up a little bit in here all this dead ball stuff is getting to my head

Anyway today I called my 1st high school game. Scrimmage game between two private schools. We are suppose to be working these in 3 men for the experience and I know 1 of my partners is Div 1 college ump so I make sure I am there 45 min before game time to try to get in a good pre-game and to look good. He is also to have the plate and I am scheduled for bases. Game time rolls around and I have no partners, inform the home team coach of the situation and ask him to give me 10 min to change into my plate gear. So I get dressed call the teams to play and watch the 1st pitcher warm up. 5 pitches the catcher maybe stopped 1. When home team takes field same thing again. So I came out of the game with bruises on the thigh, knee and foot. But all said made it through the game without any problems except for soreness

This can only get better, right??

Don,
You're on the field, that sounds good to me. I've got about 5 weeks before my first games.

Maybe your partner(s) knew something you didn't?

Don ,

Guess private schools can start a little early. By FED
rules games [scrimmage type] kick off Feb 3rd here. Have
a game Mon., Tue., Thur., Fri., and Sat. All with newbies
and with just LL experience. Gotta start somewhere.

Agree with Mike, your partners must have known something>

Cool Glen

I believe the private schools dont have to follow the UIL rules got public school scrimmages next Tue, Thur & Fri + basketball games on the weekends. I think that is probably what happen to one of my partners he probably knew about the Feb 3rd date for public schools and didnt even check his schedule or maybe as Mike said he just knew something that I learned...

It did feel good to get back on the ballfield and start working out some of the rust. Which there was plenty.

In Texas, what you said is right Don. The public schools are overseen by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) while the private schools athletics are governed by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, or TAPPS. As a result, the private schools are not held to the same restrictions that public schools are.

However, TAPPS has tried to structure themselves similar to UIL, including the fact that they recognize a school's size and categorize it as 1A through 5A. I am sure that there are many other similarities as well.

FED doesn't make the rules regarding starting dates. The individual states do. Here in California, CIF-Southern Section, practices may not start before Feb. 17. A 10-day tryout period prior to 2/17 is permissible. Games (other than scrimmages) may start on Mar. 7.
