Oregon:

Varsity (two umpires): $50.50 for the three largest classifications (6A, 5A, 4A), $45.50 for the smallest (3A/2A). In my area the vast majority of schools are 6A/5A/4A.

JV: Same as above for a single umpire (most JV games are solo), or $38.50/$34.25 if it's a crew of two.

If there's a rainout the above fees are prorated up through 4 complete innings. You get the full fee if five or more innings are completed.

There is also travel pay, calculated from a central point in the city to the site of the game. The minimum travel pay is $5.00.

Seth,

How tough is it doing a JV game alone? I have struggled doing U-10 games solo. I can not even imagine doing a JV or Varsity High School contest solo.

Way to much to watch for and the games are way too important.

In Texas you also receive .50 per mile per vehicle.

High School games are more cost efficient here than many of the college games. Typical JUCO or DIII is about a 150-200 mile round trip- no mileage, 150.. for a DH.

Typical HS game- 30-90 miles- V/JV- time limit on the JV, 80.00 plus .50 per mile.

In this part of NE Ohio, we get $43.00 for a varsity game (Two man) with no travel money. $38.00 for a JV game, generally two man.

Oh yeah....and it is only going to get worse now that we have lost our independent officials organization and are in the hands of the state's ADs.

UIL 'pay' per game was going to be at a minimum $10 per game higher this season (however the 'suit' stopped all that and pay was reverted back to 2010 pay)

So I am not sure that this whole mess is going to be a total bust as some think. ;)

We're still TASO strong out here. I think we had two or three officials register for softball with UIL. I still think that going UIL is dancing with the devil.

It can be real tough if you have the more skilled JV teams. Worse, this is where the new umpires start.

Most ASA around here is worked alone too.

Here in N.E Ohio our baseball/softball association gets paid $55.00 per game no mileage regardless of what level frosh/jv/varsity. We have contracts with 13 schools and the furthest drive would be 40 mins or so. Most of us live West of Cleveland so its really not that bad. NSA pays us $30 per game(different assignor) ASA is 27.50(different assignor)

Seth,

I feel real lucky in Montana as most of the invitational tournaments here allow the UIC's for ASA to bring in as many umpires as they need so we always have two umpires on the field. Even for U-10 now we almost always have two umpires working.

Even better is a few of the invites in the state provide us with the opportunity to work 3-man in championship games and that is always an outstanding learning opportunity when we have the chance to be selected for those games.

I'm in Trumbull County. We get into Geauga County a little, but that's about as far as we go for high school.
