Two simple questions.............

If Santa could drop off a few things on your doorstep...........

What would they be?

New equipment......what would you like to have?

Personal Improvements.........what areas of your umpiring would you like to improve?

I have already made my wish list.........but would like to see yours............I promise to post mine after a few responses.............

If Santa will replace all of my worn out equipment and uniforms that need replacing, I will work on the areas where my umpiring needs improvements myself. Heck...part of the fun of umpiring to me is finding those areas I need to improve in and then going after them.

Cool

New Equipment

Visiting DD in SA. She always asks me what I would like for a
Christmas gift. So this year I brought my Honig's and POS catalogs
with me and I have circled the items I would like,
such as K80 plate shoes, UMPSHINS UMP20, New ERA Pro Model
fitted hats, Jacket K18N, B88 Compression Tights, all from the HONIG's book.
From POS the OpticNerve SG1 Scanner Sun glasses.

Improvements

I like Scott's method, but also open to suggestions from my
fellow Blues.

Same place....just dig a little deeper!

Just did the whirlwind drive back and forth to Waco yesterday, and I don't think that I have seen quite so many troopers on the highway as there was on the strip of 35 between Dallas and Waco. Traffic was pretty hairy too. I really need to find some alternative to driving 35.

New equipment..............

Hmmmmmmmmm..........a few new hats..........I goofed up and put a moist hat in my cap caddy and closed that bad boy up for a couple of weeks during our monsoon season and wound up with moldy caps.............Ewwwwwwwwwww.........

I washed them and they came out fine........but would still like a few new ones.........

About 15-20 of those American flag patches............highly agree with Mike about that being an empty gesture.........

New shinnies...........my rivets and buckles are getting rusty...........Imagine that in the 100% humidity that we have on the Gulf Coast of TX..........grin

Improvements..................

Keep bearing down on the low strike............been pretty good the last couple of years...........I give a low one every now and than.......but not like I used to...........

MAKE SURE I HAVE GOOD PRE-GAMES WITH NEW PARTNERS AND THAT THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT WE WILL BE COVERING..........!!

i.e. - State tourney last summer...........New partner......normal pregame.........but because I had a PU PU partner that wanted to cover third on bases empty extra base hits.............I tell this partner........"I have all bases empty batter runners to 3rd"............

He looks at me and nods his head and says "sure".........

First inning..........BR hits a gapper to right-center........

Move in..........watch touch of 1st.........move to 2nd and watch the touch.....and just as I start stepping towards 3rd I hear my partner holler............"I got third!".........

I turn my head and see that he is already at third and think.........."awwwwwww.........crap"..........now I spin and cover home............

I break custom and between innings come in and remind my pard that I have the BR all the way to 3rd when the bases are empty...............he again nods his head and says "sure"...

You guessed it........2 innings later the same thing happens.........and where is my partner??

Camped at third.................arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Joel

And Mike..............like Scott..........for the right mileage prices.........we could definetely come up your way................

But I need SP umpires. We do have a regional this year, but our finances are not the best in the world, so I don't know if we can afford to bring guys in.

I'll see Luau in OKC and I'm sure we'll talk.

Hey Mike,

It's a little closer from Georgia to Delaware and I called SP for 10 years including States and Regionals. Also did 2 JO SP Nationals. So, how about me? I could use a change of scenery.

As for my wish list, I want to continue getting healthier,
lose more weight and get rid of my "little friend" that is attached to my stomach. That should be in February. I'll decide then if I'm still in umpire retirement or if I'll return. But, to tell you the truth, unless I could pick my partners for regular games out of my association, I'd rather retire. Since umpires seem to be at a premium, my group is using folks that we would have NEVER used 5-6 years ago for travel and HS ball! Plus, how do I tell the assignor that I won't work with him or his best friend because they SU*K !?!?!? So, my wish would be that my group's umpires would really become better umpires or quit!
It would surely help my nerves at Renee's games, as they seem to call at least 1/2 of them. I needed valium during her HS season as the assignor and his buddy called nearly every game and they were terrible!!! Good thing I was still recuperating from surgery and had pain pills that kinda zoned me out. I don't understand why they don't know that they really need to study, go to schools and listen to the veterans. Course, they think they're veterans with about 5 years for 1 and 3 for the other, but they're TERRIBLE!!! I was one of the trainers, and one of these guys would never listen to me nor try to do as I suggested.
What is a former umpire like me, to do?????

Smile Help

Ok I figured this went under this topic the best. Hope everybody will still read it. I am going to ask my family for either the fast-pitch mechanics vhs tapes or the 2 and 3 man cd mechanics.

WANTED anybody that has purchased either opinions!!

Thanks

Don

Got mine!!!

I have recruited three new umpires and a fourth possibility in the past week.

Between that and a white Christmas, the only thing better would have been to hit that Powerball jackpot!
