Obstruction vs. interference

I know one is when the offense commits the foul and the other is defense. I can just never remember which is which.

Anyone have a "trick" to remember this? I'm a parent & (sometimes) assistant coach.

An obstruction is something you have to go around, right? Well, when a runner is obstructed, they have to go around someone.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

So
obstruction = defensive foul
interference = offensive foul

Thanks

And how long have you been doing this? It's my third year as a SB parent, and second as coach.

I have been umpiring for about the same amount of time.....................

...............in dog years.

Really, though, I don't know of any special trick to remember them. Just keep telling yourself that DO, defense obstructs, and OI, offense interferes. There you go, mnemonics for you. "DO you know any Yiddish? OI, I say I do."
