For those of you that are interested, Renee's JV High School Team won an invitational tournament this weekend with 5 straight wins. They scored 58 runs and allowed 7 with only 3 earned. But, the sad news is that Renee is probably out of the season on defense and can DH only. She has severe tendonitis in her left shoulder, (throws left) and inflamed rotator cuff. The orthopaedic said no throwing for a least 3 weeks and that was last Thursday. The HS season is over on 09/26. She's in therepy for a month.

Sorry to hear about the injury, Elaine. Here's hoping it's a clean & quick healing - no surgery. 'Course, we all know that Mom can tell daughter all about having to sit on the sidelines for a while......

Atlanta shoulder drs.

I have first hand experience with some excellent shoulder specialists in Atlanta, as well as a great physical therapist. Let me know if you want names -- I have several.

Very sorry to hear of Renee's injury and hope that she has
a speedy and complete recovery. I know it will be tough to
not participate in the manner in which she is obviously use
to doing. At least she will still be taking her cuts and
will be along side her friends and teammates.

Good Luck,

glen

I'll second Joel's statement. Time (and patience) will probably be the largest key to a successful recovery. Nothing worse than going back too soon and re-injuring the shoulder.

Hopefully your recovery is going well too.

Been there - done that

Granddaughter, whom I've coached for years, was a freshman last spring and immediately went up to starting pitcher for JV. Had only thrown rec league ball (3-4 innings/game, 2 games/wk) before. (She had thrown all winter long in the gym, but it is obviously not the same strain as in a game.)

Pitched two complete games first week. Friday night 4 innings of relief, then both games of a tournament on a cold Saturday morning. Sore Arm! Lots of pain. Tendonitis. Trainers and doctors and treatments. Pitched again next week. She was obviously in pain and I went to coach and asked that she be removed. But when she came into dugout she told coach she was fine. (Damn pitcher's mentality - "Team needs me, and I have to finish up.")

She lost the rest of the season. Team's best batter, but couldn't even swing a bat. What a terrible shock to a young girl's psyche.

Now we are begining a program to get her back in shape for next spring, but we (her, I, and coach) are all a little smarter. There will be no overuse. And she will wear a coat between innings. Let someone else pitch occasionally.

Cool

Thanks, everyone! She has a great physical therepist and doc, and we know the injury is from overuse. But she's ok with it. Maybe she'll get to play the last game.
