Umpire Rain Prayers Please

Lord knows we all love softball..but I need a rain prayer to save me from a ncaa tourney this weekend... which admittedly when I accepted in early dec I did not consider super bowl. The pain is great... I'd say looking at it.. its 50/50...

Hook a brother up!

Thanks

Don't know why you are so hyped up about this game.

The positive of the high-powered offenses in which both teams will pull everything out of the bag will be negated by a geriatric half time show and the continual crap about New Orleans. I'm tired of hearing about it. It was a tragedy and I've been there and have friends who were directly affected. In spite of the media's attempt to damn the city for its attempt to recover, the city has been healing ever since.

However, these alleged "journalists" moved on until it is convenient for them to use the city's misfortune to their advantage even though they refused to reveal the cause of a major portion of their problems. For the sake of these fine people, leave them alone and allow them to once again thrive.

Nor do I! It ain't no rugby and sure ain't no softball!
Yesterday on the just started SixNations-Cup we've seen the game between England and Wales on tv! No Superbowl can match that game.

Today my son and I will go to our rugby-field to see our U17-team, who do exceptionally well this season. Second place in competition, untill now.

Oh, rugby. :(

For a minute there I thought you were refering to the tough, manly sport of lacrosse. Now, that I would be interested in seeing especially with Six Nations players.:D

Irish,

Since you're living in the oversee colony, you might be forgotten that the UK contains more than one nation: England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Add the the two best main-land european rugby-nations (Italy and France) and let them play each year for the SixNations-Cup. A super bowl in Rugby!

Oh, no, I have not forgotten that the UK is multi-national. But in North America, Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy is known (at least to those who care to learn their history) as the oldest participatory democracy on earth.

Couple of interesting reads:

The Six Nations: Oldest Living Participatory Democracy on Earth

Iroquois Confederacy (American Indian confederation) -- Britannica Online Encyclopedia

BTW, there are many "foreigners" who know more about American history than most citizens of the US.

How many times did yo see Invictus? ;) :)

IRISHMAFIA Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:05pm

Well, it certainly was a good game and the rhetoric was suppressed once the game started.

I like the on-side kick to start the half.

Not. I just had to "Google" Invictus to know what you mean. Thanks for the tip, I'm gonna rent the movie soon:D

Agreed on all counts. Best time to pull the on-side is when no one expects it... like the half time kickoff.

But that 1/2 time show was a complete embarressment (to those of us who used to get pumped up by listening to the Who).

Some musicians get better with age, but on the whole I haven't seen too many mid 60 year old rockers who can put on a show like they did in the mid 60's.

I heard some of the audio replayed on the radio this morning. Seemed to sound better than it did yesterday. I think it was so bad because we had to look at them.

There is also the fact that the TV live mix and fidelity is not always the best.
I wouldn't be surprised if todays audio replay was re-mixed. Maybe not, but that's what I'd do....

At any rate, I'll stick to my old recordings and try to get the image of Pete Townshend out of my mind!!

Completely agree. Told my wife that when it was announced. I've seen the Who 3-4 times, inside and outside. The last time was the opening show of their tour that started in Philly. Music was great, but Roger and Pete are deaf. The had a false start on a couple of songs and a couple times the two had to stand next to each other just so Roger could feel the beat.

Last night they tried to put on a 1980's show with geriatric bodies and windpipes of the 21st century. They sounded terrible, each missed a couple of cues and Daltry lost his rhythm more than once. Someone should tell them to retire. Take the Stones and Aerosmith with them. For that matter, Zak Starkey, as good as he is, needs to grow up and start dressing and acting the 44 year old that he is.

Of course, the guys who produce the half-time shows are idiots. The crowd would be just has happy with talented frisbee-catching dogs.

BretMan Mon Feb 08, 2010 07:55pm

The surviving boys in The Who did look a little ripe. It's sad that they're as old as they are and sadder yet that we are all just as much older than we were when we first met them.

I had to explain to my 23 year old daughter that these guys were considered pretty radical back in the day, which was even a little before my time. I was only six years old when The Who released My Generation.

Thank god they didn't have any "wardrobe malfunctions"! :D

Apparently, you didn't see Townshend's belly sticking out of his shirt and over the belt. My wife noticed it.

As a young buck I thought last year's show with Bruce was way better. But I've never seen Bruce live, now or when he was younger.

To be honest, I just don't think a concert-style show is good for any halftime.

Too many logistics to do it right and once you do a half-*** show live to 30 million people, well, there just isn't any 2nd takes.

Got to agree with you there..
In fact, I sometimes wonder why they don't have.........
Marching Bands - what a unique idea!!
Aren't marching bands historically a part of the football tradition?
(or am I wierd?)

Or my favorite, frisbee catching dogs.......or with the big screens now, just show something on TV....or a marching band is good with me!

Saw Bruce last year.

Some of my friends who saw him as a youngster thought he's a lot more focused now. His voive and music was classic Bruce.
