VTD / RegisterASA

VTD started 12 years ago working with Girl’s Fastpitch Softball and decidedly sought out ASA Associations around the country to work with in making the sport better with technology. VTD managed over 4,200 tournaments and over 280,000 registrations in 2009. Beginning November of 2009, VTD will be separating from ASA to form a new organization. The primary reason for the separation is that ASA wants to bring the services “in-house” that VTD has provided for the past years.

We are actually excited about the separation because it gives us the ability to start a new organization! This concept was formed from people around the country that know there is a better way to serve the sport of softball. The primary philosophy behind VTD is that we are a service organization and not a governing body. The board of this organization will be run by VTD commissioners around the country.

Most youth sports organizations were started by some great people with some great ideas. The problem that has developed over the years is that those same people that are no longer involved with the coaches are the ones making decisions about the sport. The difference that we are going to make is based on the decision that once you are no longer involved with the teams, you can no longer be involved in the sport as a commissioner.

VTD will be what it always has been with a few extras that will be of no additional charge. Registrations will be on an individual basis and include the following:

- College Recruiting
- Video Training – for coaches, players and league administrators.
- Insurance – accidental and liability
- Tournament Hosting via fastpitchsoftball.net
- ID Cards & Background Checks
- National Championship Events

We have several people across the country that have committed to the success of this organization and we are searching for others that are ready to serve as a commissioner of VTD. The requirements are that you are actively involved in fastpitch softball and you have the time available to invest in marketing the program in your local area.

If you are ready to join us in this exciting opportunity that will be rewarding both emotionally and financially, please forward a resume along with references to [email protected].

Great, another organization to thin out the herd.

Any boxing or former boxing fans on here?

So does this mean you will be submitting a resume'?

No, I wasn't that fond of the product as it was when it was ASA.

That's your question to everything, isn't it?

However, if you are not involved with the teams, you are not allowed to be part of it.

I guarantee someone's making money.

Why not pay UICs and commishes? I've heard enough of them bemoan the fact that they don't get paid for all the work they do and use it as an excuse when someone complains.

No, it is used as a defense. Too many morons believe Commissioners and UICs are full-time, paid positions and expect 24/7 service. When necessary, most UICs & Commissioners do a helluva job.

Two examples.

First: A couple years ago, a local team had a player have a bat kept out of a game by the umpire because it was on the non-approved list. Problem was, there was a one-digit difference in the model #. That player called the local Parks & Rec office around 8:00 am. The issue went from the local P&R to CCress in OKC to the Reg UIC to the State UIC and the local P&R had his interpretation by 8:45 am.

Second: Apparently, there is still a roster issue pending with the Men's C SP East. The manager asked his commissioner for a copy of the roster of the team in question. A message with the request was left for an individual in OKC. That morning some putz (player) for the team sent an e-mail to CC to complain that the commissioner wasn't getting a response from the main office. Within minutes the commisioner got a call from CC wanting to know why someone thinks ASA was not responding to a request.

Everyone have lives outside of ASA and softball and people have a tendency to either ignore or forget that fact.

A few questions

Am I to understand that teams are going to be competing to be the VD champions?

and

Will it be streamed?

Of course, if its just a bunch of fat Texans in tshirts with their dumb little flag on it, forget it.

PS IMO ASA should sue you for using their good name to promote a future competing, no matter how lame, product.

I'm sure the parents will be "happy" when their daughters end up with this lofty "accomplishment" on their sports resumes.

The local player was probably some lowly rec leaguer who wasn't so anal about getting a fast interpretation, but still nice to know they got a speedy response.

The higher the classification, the more swollen the ego, therefore the more brash behavior you'll find.

Couldn't care less about the player. The P&R employee needed to make a decision on a protest.

No doubt, but the point was that this "individual" wasn't satisfied that the team did not get an instantaneous response since after all, that commissioner has nothing better to do than his job.

I guess I should have added that there's more patience when a P&R employee was making the request, more likely for a rec league. I was just making the point that when it's a local issue that's inquiring for a national interp, there's more patience and less egotism than when it's a higher classification/national tournament issue waiting for a national response.
