The 3:57 minute preview was enough to make me want to eject someone. I think I'm going to go downstairs and eject the dog. "Nope, you can't stay on the back porch; I want you out of sight and sound."
|
I am fairly sure I've had the "pleasure" of having more than a few of those guys on my field from my days umpiring in Nebraska. Also sure I sent a couple of them home a little early.

Sounds like a real blockbuster.

Classic
The cigarrete and the beer during the interview are classic.
What is the chance the director is a slow pitch player? |
My first reaction to watching the trailer was that I wanted to PUKE!! My second reaction was that I did PUKE!! My third reaction is that I want the 3:57 of my life back that I spent watching this drivel.

Honestly, that is taken from a string of pictures we took of Rusty Bumgardner and Johnny McCrawl doing a hitting demonstration in Texas. Mr. Beer Belly is streaching and you can see him a few frames over, not fat at all. Sorry you guys hate it so much from looking at a trailer, but the whole movie is much more than just the 4 minutes. Beer and Ciggs, could not get away from it if we tried, we asked everyone to be normal. And no, the Director is not a softball player. Thanks for your time.

BTW, where did the title, "44 Core" originate?
|
We use the .44cor name of the softball most used in tournament play. Changed it to 44 Core, to represent the CORE of the players, sponsors and coaches.
Beer League did not go into why the guys play, and why a son competes with his father so much. 44 Core is a documentary. Filmed over a year. |

Hell, our team would show up even in a nasty thunderstorm, sit in the parking lot watching the lightning and drinking beer. It's a rule, once the beer is on ice, it must be consumed! Isn't that why they play in the midwest? |

Besides the beer drinking and smoking, we did not experience much of the "Beer League" follies. I will say though, the officials that were umpiring were great, very accommodating and handled all situations. We even have a few in the DVD extras of players arguing a strike, and being thrown out of a game. What did not make it was the player being thrown out, then throwing the bat and nearly hitting our camera man in the head. (he didn't even see it coming) I personally did not follow the guys that much after a tournament because I wanted them to have some down time without the cameras in their faces. I know at least once The Longhaul Bombers took my cameraman out, the next day he was a bit worthless for a few hours....:D

Is this a documentary on the missing link?
Have been involved with slow-pitch at a very high level over many decades. The game has degenerated to something I am almost ashamed of at the upper levels. Lower levels still have some credibility of sportsmanship and class. |
I would like to see a good documentary on a run for the Gold national or something else featuring actual athletes involved in softball.
Fat beer league dudes do not catch my interest. In any case, GL, maybe this will pave the way to showcasing that. |

Artie should move to California. We're never dry. |
This is a good documentary about a mens slowpitch softball team, getting to know each other and with a goal to go to nationals.
