USA vs Canada Border Battle

Did anybody watch this game of elite slow-pitch softball? Umpires were wearing ASA hats and all the USA players had the ASA patch on their uniform yet just about every player was wearing some form of jewelry. One of the Canadian infielders was wearing multiple earings. Wouldn't any self-aware umpire deem this stuff dangerous?

ASA 3-6-F: Exposed jewelry, which is judged by the umpire to be dangerous, must be removed and may not be worn during the game.
It's umpire's judgment.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

I'm aware that it's the umpires judgement but could it be clouded by the fact he's umpiring such a high level of softball and he turns a blind eye or did someone tell him not to worry about such a silly rule?

I'd say if you're good enough to work that level of softball your judgement is just fine. One of the keys to umpiring is knowing what is expected at each level and what rules you need to keep a close eye on.

And like Dave said, it's HIS judgement. You may feel he's turning a blind eye; he seems to feel it's not a problem.

Oh, I don't know...it could be dangerous to the person wearing the jewelry and if they get injured on the field, who are they going to sue first? It could also be dangerous to other players. Only takes a little common sense to figure out how a necklace can hurt multiple people.

Notes on Battle of the Border:

1-1 count, but running out home runs.

Not really paying attention to batters stepping out of box PRIOR to hitting pitch.

IPs are being called.

Pushing players into dugout

Base umpires are mirroring PU on TIME calls. Have not done this nor taught it in over 10 years. It is NOT in the Umpire Manual.

Announcers are ??? Bobby Lutz noted the pitcher must present the ball.

Then there was a shot right back to the "circle"?

And an "extra hitter"? I'd love to see Pup make a defensive change involving this player just to see what they would say

Lot of rotations. Five umpire game?

During in-game interview, Pup holds up ASA Line-up Card Holder. I'm going to have to remember to give him a couple extra. God knows we don't need them.

Please! They are adults and I'm not their mother. I have seen nothing dangerous on any player. If you are going to be that anal, and trust me, I KNOW ANAL, would you also have them remove the Armed Forces pins each USA player is wearing?

Maybe NFHS intelligence, get rid of the jewelry, but let them wear metal spikes! Yeah, lot of common sense there.
