Mike, have you forgot how fast they think when deer hunting?:D

Is that how they ended up shooting at each other?

As long as we are on the Infield (one word) Fly Rule, two questions, neither about hunting. ;)
1) What is your thought/limit for separating a fly from a line drive in the case of a blooper?
2) Do you lean toward calling IFR or not calling it if in doubt about question 1?

Please ignore location, effort, etc.; just about fly or not. Yes, the definition is any ball in flight, but for IFR purposes a line drive is not considered.

1) How do I judge it? Simple. Do I have enough time to shout "infield fly, batter's out" or "infield fly if fair" before the ball hits the ground or is caught? Yes? Okay, good enough for me. :D

2) I lean towards not calling it.

It does. However, why did the BR stop running? Because the PU screwed up. The BR heard that s/he was out, so s/he stopped. If the PU hadn't have called the IFF, I'm pretty certain the BR would've kept going.

So since the PU f'ed up, s/he now has to fix it. If the ball wasn't caught, put the BR on 1B and advance any forced runners. If the ball WAS caught, then none of this matters, as the defense still made the out, and the BR's actions are irrelevant.

This happened to me a couple weeks ago. I called an IFF in a women's league where they don't use the rule. R1 and R2 stopped running, the ball dropped and the defense threw the ball to third. I awarded one base to all runners.

Was that because you judged the mis-call caused R1 to not reach 3rd in time?
