Last time I was down there, saw more hog racks in front than gun racks in back. There is some good deer hunting and hog hunting down there if you care for such things. And, if you're over by Normangee you might have to kill an angry bull (while deer hunting) although I haven't had to do that since 1974. But it was very tasty.

The bull or the deer?

We do that in Nebraska if there's no snow on the ground on Christmas Day.

I'm sure he's referring to both. Hmmm...sounds like a delicious farm and game dish, just throw in the baked potatoes, corn, and salad. :D

But I don't see the big deal about shooting the bull, John is always doing that!

Hell, P'cola is the nastiest place I have been when it comes to humidity, even on the water. Last time I was on NAS, it was 95 & 95 at 7:30 AM for which I should have been ready since I used to live there.

Compared to Escambia, NOLA, Lake Charles and Houston are like cool summer resorts.:D

Methinks your memory is failing, Mike! ;)

Having spent the last 14 years on ball fields from Tallahassee west through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the Texas Gulf Coast, I guarantee that the humidity increases as you move west. Heck, our LA team liked coming to P'cola for the 4th of July tournament because it felt so cool compared to Baton Rouge and Sulphur.

No, it isn't my memory. Last time is worked at NAS P'cola, I wasn't five steps outside of the barracks (actually, a Marriott-operated hotel) and I needed a shower and, it was indeed, 7:30 AM.

Dakota is right, most people carry a concealed handgun here. The folks out in East and far West Texas still have the gun racks though. DPS gets about 70,000 handgun license applications per year here.

Welpe, I would choose to live more on the West side. Southwest is very high crime areas, unless you move out of Houston a little.

Well ... I didn't say summer was real pleasant (just that it's even worse as you go west).

Such a different world from where I currently live. :)

Thanks Trooper, I'm finding that to be true upon doing further research. Do you mind if I send you a PM to pick your brain about specific neighborhoods to avoid?

Thanks again everyone!

Monty

Which is why I offer firearm training to my friends and family who are not familiar with firearms. From all reports, I seem to be a pretty decent trainer, and every person I've taken to the range to teach firearms and firearm safety seems to want to go back again and again. :)

Go ahead and send it; give me a day to check with the PD or SO to check the crime stats.

But are you certified as a trainer and for what weapons?

Nope, nor do I tell people that I am. However, they ask me to show them how to handle a weapon, so I teach them the basics.
