How much do you watch other umps call games? Do you find yourself critiquing them for their calls or strike zone.

I watch umpires.
I look at positioning, signals, game management and (... yeah ...) uniforms.
I allow the umps on the field take care of balls, strikes, fair, foul, out, safe.
When I am outside the lines, like most fanboys, I have no judgement.

I enjoy watching other umpires. I don't get to do it often since I live a good distance from Ottawa where the games are. Tournaments are usually where I do it. I attended an Instructor/Evaluator clinic in April and became a member of our zone staff so I am performing evaluations on other umpires. I watched 3 today and enjoyed it a lot. One is a former evaluator who has done a Canadian Championship. He had knee surgery two years ago so I had to cut him some slack on the "hustle". Another is a walking rule book, but his mechanics were not sharp. The third is a converted baseball ump who didn't look out of place in his first year. I am aiming for 15 evals because there is a premium (jacket, bag, etc.) for evaluators who reach that mark.
