Runner is hit with a ball
A baserunner is on third and the batter hits a liner down the third base line that hits the runner and rolls foul. The ump called it foul and the coaches and crowd were upset about the call. I have 3 questions. Should he have called it dead ball? Does it matter if the third baseman is charging in to field a faked bunt? Is there a difference if the runners foot is on or off the base? This happened at Pickens High School earlier this year.

First off, I wouldn't specifically mention the place where it occurred so prominently in the post.
Second, there's a lot missing here. Was the ball in fair or foul territory when it hit the runner? |

Its not like the OP included the phone number of the batter. |
The only reason to call it foul was if it hit the runner in foul territory. Speaking ASA, if hit the runner in fair territory it is either a live or dead ball. By your post I will assume the ball passed F5. If no other infielder could make and out (like F6) then it is a live ball. If F6 could make an out then it s/b a dead ball with the runner out and the BR put on 1st.

Actually, I don't know what it is about this post, but something doesn't seem right. Maybe it's all the troll activity in the other threads... |

to answer the question(s) if the ball was in fair territory and the runner did nothing intentional to interfere .. its a live ball. one foot or two on the bag makes no difference. NFHS

Hey GreenSuedeBlue...was it a day game or night game? That would make a difference.
