Why did ASA cut out Umpire rule book?
We all know the only ones that read the rulebook (or know it for that matter :))
are the Umpires. What was the reason for stopping the Umpires edition? Was it to save money?I really feel they need to rethink this and bring the Umpire's edition back in 2010. Regardless I re-read the rule book several times during the year and miss the material that the umpires edition gave me. What is your opinion? |
I received an Umpire Manual/Umpire Edition of the 2009 ASA rule book when I registered with my local state association.

I got the umpires' version...don't see why you didn't
|
Yup. Me too.
|
Mine says 2009 Umpire Manual right there on it.
|
You got flim flammed.
|
Maybe they're trying to tell you something!

The only rule book that got cut down was the one that used to have the code in it. It went to teams, commissioners, etc. Now all the extra they get is the whole list of tournaments for this year, next year, and the next year. They have to go online for the code.
And no, I don't know why treehugging got fashionable in OKC... |

what they took out was the mechanic diagrams. Now they just have it written. Go to cactus ump for the diagrams
|
Oddly, the missing mechanics diagrams are refered to by the accompanying text in several places, which makes me think that the diagrams were omitted by mistake.
Why else would there be a "key" explaining that "in the following diagrams", "P" equals Plate Umpire, "B" equals Base Umpire, etc.? Anyhow, if you didn't get the Umpire Edition, it does exist and you might want to find one. The missing diagrams aside, the entire "Umpire Manual" section was reorganized and rewritten for 2009, with all new illustrations added. |
