Is there a case book play......
 
When the batter hits the ball and drops the bat and the ball rolls into the bat (bat is stationary) in fair territory...is this play and the results in a case book (from any year). I need in black/white to show fellow umpire. Thanks

The rule is pretty clear IMO, and in a perfect shade of black and white - so I doubt the case play below will help as it is likely a comprehension issue.

From the 2008 case book:

PLAY 7.6-7

RULING: B1 is not out for hitting a ball a second time. After hitting the bat the ball is fair until it rolls into foul territory. If it comes to rest in foul territory before anyone touches it, it is a foul ball. (1-FAIR BALL; 7-6K)

And one is more likely to be hit by lightning than to have witnessed such situation in a game. ;) :D

That case play does not apply. It is only a live ball in this situation if it does, in fact, rebound off the pitcher's plate.

I haven't had a printed copy for several years. The only copy I can find for sale is on the clinic guide cd ($15).
