3 Distinct Actions
We were given a new strike mechanic at the clinic this year and I was wondering if this is how it is being done all over.
NFHS 1. Vocalize call "Haaahggh!!" 2. Stand up 3. The High Hammer This replaces Vocalizing and hammering simultaneously then standing |
Sounds like ASA's mechanic. How high's the hammer? 90 degrees, or raising up a fist high into the air?

"Verbal down, visual up."
We preach that up here. |

Yup, same here in Pa. |

Cool! Welcome to softball mechanics. ;)

Only way Ive ever been taught/taught, fast or slow. I think it helps with slowing down your timing a little.

Hammering while squatting seems very awkward. Some umps stand before the vocal, however, also wrong, |

I just asked my friend in Taiwan, Woo Ching-Kao. Same there.

Staning up?
We have some umpires that verbalize then bring the feet together and then mark the strike. I was at an ASA national and was taught to not move the feet, just come out of the squat and mark it high after verbal. I have been teaching this to our association. Did I just have a weird UIC or is this the way it is supposed to be done?

come straight up without moving the feet.... |

Yup. |

That visual got them to change (although with younger umpires today, I doubt they would get my point). |

Interestingly enough, the strike mechanic is the same here. I'm sensing a trend. As an aside, I am not a fan of the nearly 180* hammer mechanic. It looks like the umpire is trying to grab something out of the sky. |

Well, the meth labs are more on the outskirts of Portland.
And today I hear the state is thinking about getting into the medical marijuana growing business. There are critics of this plan, as you might expect. What are they saying? Why, they say growing that much pot will take a lot more work and money than the state thinks... Only in Oregon. :D |

And thats coming from someone who voted no on even medical marijuana (I lost - and to me medical pot is and remains an obvious hoax). But its just an idiotic joke to pretend its even illegal anymore. Ca is talking about doing just that, full legalization and taxing -- so many more zombie idiots wandering around I would imagine. |
