Can the coaches box, at 1st and 3rd each contain 1 coach and 1 player? It may not be a good idea, but I see no where in the rules for USSSA where that is illegal. It happened in one of my games, and I didnt have a problem with it... neither did the players, but a big mouth father in the stands sure did... (Of course, his girls team was getting beat). I have never seen in the rulebook where it is illegal, but he swore it was. He said he would show me. And so, I took something that I read previously on this board, and I told him "tear the page out, and I will read it later, I'm in the middle of a game right now." So, someone please tell me if it is even in the rule book. Thanks

Wink

From the USSSA rule book:

RULE 3. DEFINITIONS

A COACH is a member of the Team at bat. One Coach only is permitted in each Coaches box, to direct the players of his own Team while batting and running bases.

JW:

The "big mouth father" knows more about the coach's box than you. By your "reasoning", they can hold a team meeting in there.

Why talk to the father?

Why would you even talk to somebody outside the fence? The game is happening inside the fence, nothing outside it matters.

To be honest, I do not make it a habit to talk to someone in the stands, by any means. This man was keeping the book, so when he had a question about batting out of order, of course, I had to talk to him. Then, I guess he preceded to use that to get me to pay him attention the whole time. I caught on to that move, and ignored him. He would YELL... and I DO mean YELL... BLUE, BLUE BLUE!!!!! at the top of his lungs. There was one time, when I told him that if I heard one more word from him, he would have to leave. He shut up then. I dont doubt that he knows more than I do about the rules. I never pretended to be a 'rule book thumper'. But, I also am not gonna let someone in the stands make a call for me, even if I do end up being wrong. I understand now that one person in each coaching box, at a time. No problem.
