Two local teams

I haven't had time to pay attention to the various youth World Series that are going on, but I just found out that Robbinsville, NJ, a local team, is in the final of the 12u softball World Series tonight at 7 on ESPN2.

Another 12u local team, from Hamilton, is in the Babe Ruth World Series. They have one loss and must get past two teams to reach the finals. I've worked their games many times.

So I guess New Jersey isn't yet a total loss. Even so, I plan to be in my new house in Blount Springs, Alabama, by mid-September.

Are you calling any games in Alabama yet?

I'm still in the Soprano State at the moment, but when I visited Alabama in April I watched a couple of innings of a game at Mortimer Jordan High School in Morris, about 13 miles from the house I'm buying. The field was beautifully maintained, and the quality of play seemed pretty decent.

Blount County (where I'm moving) is three times the size of Mercer County, where I live now. The population of Blount is a seventh that of Mercer, so I'm expecting lighter traffic in Dixie.

Just remember the #1 rule of the road down south (I used to live in SC and TX, so I know this to be true)...

Pickups have the right-of-way. No exceptions (unless you're driving a bigger truck).

No, pick-ups with a full gun rack have the ultimate right of way, but watch out for the big rigs when the love bugs bloom, they can really screw up a driver's view if there isn't enough windshield washer fluid in the well.

Actually, the POS (and if two POS approach at the same time, then it's the biggest POS) has the right of way.

Seeing girls on national TV that I've watched play for many years is just too cool. When my 10 year old wandered in the room, I pointed to the screen and said "see that girl in the circle? She pitched to you last year."
