I have my stopwatch out....

...lets see who will be the first to figure this out:

three outs...TWO pitches....

how?

ASA/NYSSOBLUE Fri Jun 13, 2008 07:21pm

should say...

I actually had this last week....

That's an EZ one. ASA rules. Single on first pitch. Double play on second pitch, and appeal for batting out of order. Or batters not taking position within 10 seconds.

WRONG - all outs were result of a pitch....

Two LEGAL pitches or two pitches total?

Does an intentional walk require 4 pitches or can the BR be sent down without a pitch?

Fast Pitch or Slow Pitch? Tie Breaker rule? Not enough information.

R1 on 2B - ITB
Pitch one - HBP
Pitch two - triple play

1st pitch a single...R1 stays on 2nd. Now you have R1 on 2B & R 2 on 1st.

2nd pitch...High fly towards short stop...IFR so BR Out. R2 passes R1 (2nd Out). Fly ball hits R1 (3rd out).

Have heard this same scenario as "how do you get 3 outs on 1 batted ball and no one on defenses touches ball?"..of course there isn't a pitch limit!

Guess if this isn't the right answer you have another umpire riddle!

ASA/NYSSOBLUE Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:56pm

This was the sitch:

T11 TB runner on 2b

Pitch 1: infield pop up Out 1

Pitch 2 : grounder to 3rd (out 2), R1 goes to 3rd on the throw, then gets caught off the base and a quick run down for Out 3....home team wins B11....on a 1st pitch single..so a total of three pitches the entire inning, and we FINALLY get to go home...

Actually, I've had and posted this before. . It was the first year they decided to keep an out on a BOO. I honestly believed I would never see something like this, but in the first league game of the year.

B1 singles
B3 hits into a 4-6-3 DP
Defense appeals BOO, B2 declared out.

Two batters, two pitches, three outs. the half-inning barely took 3 minutes and most of that was waiting for the prima donnas to get in the box.

Don't know about you, but it really lifted my spirits when I realized what had happened. Now, if they could all be that easy:D

2 pitches -- 3 outs

How about ITB -- then out for runner leaving base early (no pitch!) and then 2 first pitch ground outs or fly balls?

And they (2 pitches and the out for leaving early) can occur in any order.

Doesn't Andy have a one-pitch version of three outs?

Fairly easy to do using the ITB.

Batter bunts, pops it up; caught fly ball, R1 doubled off second. Two outs.

Oops, BOO; now three outs, one pitch.
