Well I took soooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! much flak about wearing a plate cap with a 1" bill that I figured I'd give into the peer pressure and buy one that you are all wearing. Looking in the ASA book I see different options to buy. Which one is considered the combo cap that can be worn both plate and bases? Is it the one that says 3/4 field, 2 1/2" 6 stitch? Can you wear a plate, 2" 4 stitch on the bases? I wonder if I would be better off buying one of each? The 6 stitch may be tough for me to get the mask off with since I have been using THAT SMALL, SMALL BILL. Thanks, Dave

The four stitch is what many are wearing for the plate. The best idea is to have a field hat (6 or 8 stitch) AND a plate hat (2 or 4 stitch). (Of course, since you said that you have recieved flak for wearing the 2 stitch, I guess that is not an option). Anyway, you are better off with at least two hats (plate and field) for each of the associations you are calling ball for.

Dave,
I reaaallly like the combo cool mesh hat ASA offers. It can be worn behind the plate and I don't have any problem with the longer bill getting in the way. It's a great hat. The only thing you need to be aware of with it - buy it 1/8 of a size smaller than you normally wear. The cool mesh hat sizes run a little big. In the past, I always worn the 4 stitch plate hat and the 8 stitch field hat. After trying the combo I'll never buy anthing else. Gary |

In my 1st games behind the plate last week I went with the 6 stitch wool cap I had no problems with it. I do wish though that I had purchased the mesh instead of the wool, I did not think about how warm it gets wearing all that equipment. I would even suggest getting the mesh 3/16 size smaller. The field mesh I bought was 1/8 smaller than my wool and it still bigger fitting

I was told that since ASA doesn't sell it, it isn't accepted as part of the ASA uniform. I love mine too because no matter how sloppily I take my mask off, my cap stays in place. Dave

I don't know what the problem is as I usually wear a 6-stitch and have no problem getting the mask off.
BTW, IMO the "cool" mesh cap really isn't that much "cooler" than the wool. And, yes, I do have a full head of hair.

Mike,
I don't have full head of hair, but that's not why I like the cool mesh. It's just alot easier to keep looking new - clean - fresh. It cleans up easier and dries faster than the wool. Gary |
