I recently worked a 40 team HS tournament here in AZ.
There were two teams from TX there, Brenham and Bryan High Schools. I don't know what part of TX they were from, but I know the team from Bryan was playing in the championship game. I just wanted to know if any of you are familiar with either of these teams and how they rate against other TX High School teams. Andy |

Andy,
I'm not familiar with Brenham's team, but I called one of Bryan's games in a tournament last month. Good, aggressive team. I believe they got knocked out in the quarter-final round. Both schools are south of me, closer to Glen. Gary |

I had worked the Brenham tournament in 2000 and 2001 and was scheduled to Umpire in the tournament this year, but was out due to back problems. However, I know that they are ranked either second or third in the State. They also have a very aggressive and smart team. A team from my area here managed to beat them two outa three last year and advance to the State tournament. Port Neches Groves. They were also in the Brenham tournament. Bryan is an exceptionally good team as stated by ntxblue. Bryan is currently ranked 4th in Class 5A big schools. glen

Both Bryan and Brenham are good teams..........
The Houston Chronicle has both ranked in the top 10 in their respective divisions in the Houston area..... Bryan is 5A and Brenham is a 4A school. Joel Off topic.........Brenham also has a good girls soccer team.......Our HS girls team faces them for the Regional Championship this Thursday evening..... Thanks, guys...
We have pretty good teams here in AZ for the most part, thanks to a strong ASA program and our great weather. It sure is fun to see teams from other areas and compare to what we see on a day to day basis. Just FYI - my partner tossed Brenham's coach in one of the games I did - the guy didn't like a call against his team and charged out on the field, he was halfway to second base before yelling "time" and the ball was still in play! My partner (BU) asked him to leave the field and he refused so my partner tossed him. A little quick, in my opinion, but the guy deserved to be tossed based on his actions up to this point. Brenham ended up winning that particular game 1-0 in ten innings. Great tournament! |

partner's actions were warranted....It definiately was not the first time he has been expelled or banished for his on-field antics at least from what I have heard. I did not see any problems the tournaments I was in. glen

Andy,
Charging out onto the field during a live ball --- Not too many would have let him stay around. You're right about seeing new teams. I always look forward to calling in new places. When I head out your direction, I'll let you know in advance. I'm still trying to get back to Beaumont to call with Glen. If you EVER get the chance to call with Glen, JUMP on it. He is a lot of fun for players, coaches, and fans. Gary |
