That may vary with the state. I believe to have on-line access (that is, to be able to register with the NFHS for on-line access) you actually need to be a member of the NFHS Officials Association, not just a registered NFHS umpire. If your state provides membership in the NFHS Officials Association as part of your registration, then you're in. Otherwise, you need to independently join.

And that means that everyone from the state of Texas have to independently join.

It's been so long since I registered on that site that I didn't even consider that. If that is the case, then our state must provide membership to the Officials Association along with our annual fees, because I don't remember paying anything extra.

And that I would remember!

But I do recall having to register through the web site before it would allow me to log-in. I would suggest going through the site registration process and seeing what happens. There is a "Sign-Up" link near the upper right side of their home page.

You will need an ID number that can be found on the Officials Quarterly magazine mailing label. My guess is that if you don't get the magazine, you are probably not a member of the Officials Association.

NFHS has placed a pdf file of the rule book and the case book in the members area of their web site. If you are a member of the NFHS Officials Association (the national org, not just your state assoc.), you can view and/or download the files. They are searchable and copy/paste-able. Nice.

I finally got the two CDs from ASA (Casebook and Rulebook). It's really handy to have the rules at your fingertips whenever a "what if" situation strikes you.

Though personally, I wish ASA would combine the casebook and rulebook again. When I first started in the early 90s, I seem to recall examples printed under the rules, which is basically what the casebook seems to be. I don't know if they separated them to improve the readability of the rulebook, or if they just wanted a few extra bucks from me. However, I think a good idea would be to put the casebook in the back of the rulebook after the rules supplements or the mechanics section.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

Considering they are moving in the exact opposite direction.. ie not even going to make a dedicated umpire edition; probably not a chance in hell of that happening.
