Season Ending on Sunday

With the exception of coed, the softball season came to a close on Sunday. I did our state FP tourney; seven games, six as PU. Tourney is going pretty well until my second game on Sunday. I'm waiting for the loser's bracket game to end so I can do the next game and shooting the breeze with the TD. Game ends and the pitcher comes over and starts questioning the TD about the umpires. This is the PU's first years as a FP umpire and we're thankful to have a warm body who will do it. TD tells him he won't discuss umpires and the pitcher can stay and play or leave right now. Incidently, this team had this PU three games and won them all, so don't know why he was complaining about the umpiring.

So, I end up getting this team next with the same pitcher. First couple of innings we have a tight game, one team up by one or two. The pitcher doesn't get the calls he wants and is giving me some nonverbals and a little jaw. I call time, clean the plate (which was already clean) and tell the catcher to tell his pitcher not to argue balls/strikes because I won't tolerate it. The next batter up gets a hit and scores 2-3 runs. Pitcher gets the ball in the circle and tells his catcher they might as well set up a tee at the plate. BAM! You're gone bud, have a nice day.

Just so happens this team wins its way through the loser's bracket all the way to the championship game; which they lost 5-3. All-in-all it was a fun weekend, but I was hoping to make it through the season without an ejection...oh wait, I did have another one back in April.

Now...where did I put my football knickers?

Kudos to your tournament director for nipping the b*tching in the bud....

I have no problem with that ejection.....
