Anything that could have been done?
Ok long post got cut off earlier so here is the short version, bases loaded, 1 out ball hit to 2nd base side of F3 she fields ball and tags R3 then throws to F4 for double play, no runs score.
Ok off coach complaining that F3 had ball in bare hand and tagged with mitt. FU was in correct position right should of F6 coming accross the diamond to get close to play at 1st. She was blocked, PU was blocked by F1 heading toward 1st and R3 curved body to avoid the tag so her back was parallel to the base line. Both were blocked and could see there was a tag but could not see the seperation in the hands (2-3 inches by Off coaches account) so question is is there anything the the blues could have done different to get a view of this tag? |

Other than hustle more and hope they don't get blocked? Not that I can think of. Besides, who says the coach was right? Sounds like it all happened so fast, the coach could have also been just as wrong as he claims he is right.
Even the best hustling umps get blocked now and then. Sometimes, two at a time (think of A-Rod).

Dave I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views! Screw green, it ain't easy being blue! I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again. |

Hopefully BU dealt with it decisively.
i.e. "coach legal tag was applied, lets play ball". I wouldnt give an ounce of wiggle room to this coach. You do that and you ask for trouble. Save the wonderings for later discussions with partners, this forum and in the future, make sure you see what you see.
