ASA Slowpitch
Last night in the local beer league, ASA rules, bottom of the last inning. The home team hits a home run to win the game. Batter carries the bat past 1B before tossing it to 1B coach. Visitors go ballistic "he's out carrying the bat" rule.
In my little pea brain pops a thread on here saying it was legal. So I stick to my memory of that thread. I can't seem to find the thread this morning. Please tell me I got this right . I said no out game over. They did the protest thing and the "UIC"/ Park Director went with my decision...... |

If I remember correctly, that is a U-trip rule.

Read ASA Rules Supplement 52.

MN Blue is correct (well, at least for slow-pitch)
USSSA 8.4 (g) states that the batter runner cannot touch 1b with the bat if the ball is live. However, I do not believe there is a corresponding rule for fast pitch, although I am not an umpire... |

Also NSA, unless they changed their rule recently. |

Interesting Q for the literal of us: " batter runner cannot touch 1b with the bat if the ball is live... OK, but he touched it with his foot. " |

If the batted ball has cleared the outfield fence, is not the ball now a dead ball and the batter is awarded four bases because a fair ball went into dead ball territory on the fly. Therefore, if the ball became dead before the batter touched first base, the batter is not out. MTD, Sr. |
