Socks and Playoffs

We are pretty deep into our playoffs aropund here. So the blue crews are people with lots of experience and basically use to their word being "the word".

So yesterday two blues before the game started got into a major pi$$ing contest , on the field, whether the pitcher and catcher have to wear matching socks. Each of the players had like a black and one white sock on.

After the game out came the rulebooks and the majority thought that 2 different socks were okay.

What say you ?

If each of the players had one of each color sock on, sounds to me as though they were "uniform." I wouldn't have done a thing.

I think most of us that are pretty good expect our "word" to be the word ... but I have to say that in the 2000+ games I've worked, the subject of socks has NEVER EVER come up - not once. Umpire the GAME. Any umpire who got his knickers in a twist over what he perceived to be mismatched socks REALLY needs to be working elsewhere. What a ridiculous thing to get upset about.

There are many people who seem to take great joy in being the fashion police, though.

I never noticed, do they wear socks?

Yeah, and because of that, some of us have to note unfashionable stuff.

There is at one team in this area where each of the members of the team are issued two pair of socks, each containing one orange and one navy sock. For safety reasons, the each pair is divided during shipping so that the two orange socks are in one package and the two navy socks are in another, but the girls manage to re-assemble them and wear them correctly.

IIRC, this team is not unique in this regard (well, except for the chosen colors).

sports fans, I can tell you there was an issue about this very thing at a championship tournament in 2005.
