Sorta like WHOS on first, WHATS on second, etc..etc...

I love that word obtuse, the first time I heard it
used was by my wife when talking about me. I thought she
was complimenting me.

I got no bone to pick here, but there is a logic to softball's nomenclature, too. The logic is the players are numbered in the order they appeared in the inning.
Then you could have R1 on 3rd, and R5 on 1st, with B6 grounding to F4.

Isn't it simpler to say "R1, and R3, 2out, ground ball to F4."

Same play, Less words, Less confusion on whos on first. There isn't really any concern about who made the outs.

Not an arguement,Just a point. Kind of like stopping the wind, I guess. I'll keep translating it in my mind so I can see the play, and when I'm in softball-land (or Fedland) try to speek as the Greeks, er Romans, do!

I didn't say it was simpler or anything, just that there was a logic to it. It's all what you get used to, I guess.
