"Filling in Roster" in ASA rec tournament

14U ASA rec post-season tournament among 14 teams in 5 leagues that have been playing against each other all season, Team X can't get enough of his team to show up for one of the post-season tournament games and wants to A)bring a couple of players from another 14U team in his league or B) bring up a couple of players from a 12U team in his league.

Is this level of play covered by Part 5 of the rules? Is this specifically prohibited by Article 501.A.3-4 or Article 502? Would it only prohibit option A but not B?

It appears that he does this on the fly, depending on how many of his regular roster of players are available that day, rather than having added Pick-Up Players "when advancing to championship play" and I doubt he has submitted "a completed ASA official ASA pick-up player form attached to the official roster before the team plays in the tournament" as required by ARticle 503.A.11.

If all these rules apply, does Article 501.A.4 mean that a tournament may not waive these rules (i.e, the tournament directors or whomever may not say that they will allow filling in the roster even though it is prohibited by these ruled)?

Thanks.

Matt,

Not an umpire issue. The local ASA assn. can permit anything they please as long as the player is registered ASA individually, or they can reregister as a team.

Unless this tournament leads to a National, no one really cares.

Thank you, Mike. So the answer to what is and is not permitted for this particular tournament should be found with the tournament officials in whatever rules they set up?

Yep, for non-Championship Play ( and even some very local Championship Play), TD or Commissioners can do just about anything they like.
