Check the baseball forum as there is much discussion about the NB plate shoe vs. the GD plate shoe

I know some folks who have them, and think that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. However, the problem they all note is that the New Balance logo, for some reason, is done in white and silver. I don't understand why they can't do it in black the way they do their field shoes.

The New Balance shoes are very light, sturdy and comfortable. I easily darkend the silver N with a marker. Some have carefully cut it off with a razor blade. I agree, it would be nice if they were made with a pre blacked N.

Are you talking about there?

I don't like the rivets on the protection plate. Ugly. Just like the spotbilt shoe.

New Balance plate shoe

I agree with So Cal Ump. I have balckened my base shoes, then after a little experimenting, used a razor blade to cut off the logo on my plate shoes.

They really are a nice shoe

I simply don't understand those that worry about the logo. I have the shoes and I wouldn't consider changing them in any way. They're umpire shoes and I umpire in them.

As far as NCAA is concerned, and at least where I do ASA, we can not wear anything but black shoes. The NB logo is an no-no.

I work NCAA baseball with both NB plate and base shoes. Thank goodness this isn't an issue where I live.

Rich get your a$$ back over to the black-and-white-shoe-wearing baseball board.

I am awaiting some NB plate shoes. That's all I wear on the bases and swear by them. (I also wear Superfeet in all my shoes. You can get them at soccer shops. I will happily accept your thanks after you try them out for the best $30 you've spent in a while.) I get them solid black so I don't have to worry about the white logo. A local shoe shop guy (damn, what are those guys called...the things one forgets) says he can take care of the white logo.

I'm sure that's particularly valuable input for softball uniform requirements. Did you also post on the soccer board, since they would certainly be waiting with equal anticipation to know what you do in baseball?

And, while we are on the topic, I was wondering exactly how you would feel if I wore an ASA logo ballbag to umpire in your NCAA baseball game. After all, it is an umpire's ballbag, so I should be free to wear it exactly as it is, using your logic, right? No, but I can wear one with +POS logo, can't I. That makes almost as much sense; OK to have logo's but only accepted logo's.

For NCAA softball, this isn't a local issue. It is a national one!

Do they tell you whether you can have pleats in your pants, too?

They tell us their preference, and what it takes to be considered for post season and to move up divisions. The rest is up to the individual umpire.
