you may not have hurricanes in New Zealand but you sure have some whopping typhoons. I was on a flight from Brisbane to Los Angeles in '88 or '89 and we had to divert to NZ to wait out a typhoon. Got on the ground just as it started hitting the airport. And brother! I sure couldn't tell the difference between a hurricane and a typhoon while we were all huddled in the airport watching concourse windows leak and a few break. |
"A typhoon is what hurricanes are called in the Pacific Ocean. Both hurricanes and typhoons are tropical cyclones. Hurricanes are a bit more specifically defined than typhoons. The American Heritage dictionary defines a hurricane as a severe tropical cyclone originating in the equatorial regions of the Atlantic Ocean or Caribbean Sea, traveling north, northwest, or northeast from its point of origin, and usually involving heavy rains. The same source describes a typhoon as a tropical cyclone occurring in the western Pacific or Indian oceans."

I don't know yet. A group dutch umpire's (incl me) is asked IF they are available to work there. It's off season now for us, most off us spare their free days for the summer to umpire in the winter. I've mailed the UIC that he can put me on the roster. Saturday we, the dutch TOP-umpire crew, will meet te close this year/season as allways in nov. Maybe then we will hear who's going to Schiedam... If I'm not chosen to umpire, I know I will go watching! So see you at the Cup! |

Of course, San Joaquin is not So Cal.. |
Sure it is. Take your map out and draw a line 1/2 way between the state (West to East).
The San Joaquin Valley begins at the bottom of the Mts (Grapevine) and extends north to around Redding. No wait, up north there it's the Sacramento Valley. When the summer temps in Kern County are 100+ (day after day, week after week, and month after month) the more southernly places like LA and SD are in the 80's (sometimes hotter). Except the more easternly places out toward Palm Springs, it gets hot out there too. Anything else you need to know about my neighborhood? |

Bakersfield et al is trying to sneak into So Cal huh? What a bunch of sandbaggers. OK you can trick those on the east coast with the map trick.. The rest know So cal begins at Grapevine. |
Personally, if I lived anywhere near the area, I'd be looking for map trickery to NOT be considered part of socali. ;)
